Brandi S. Spates
Attorney
Background
Before joining Krigel, Nugent + Moore, Brandi practiced at a nationally recognized litigation boutique firm, where she represented individuals and businesses in class actions and other contingent‑fee matters across the country. Her experience includes consumer protection, product liability, data privacy and data breach litigation, and wage‑and‑hour disputes. Brandi has also represented survivors of sexual assault and abuse in civil actions against perpetrators and negligent parties.
Earlier in her career, Brandi gained valuable defense‑side experience representing employers in employment and labor disputes in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. That background provides her with strategic insight into anticipating litigation tactics from both sides of the courtroom and building efficient, trial‑ready cases.
Brandi earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law, where she received an Advocacy Skills Certification and Pro Bono Distinction and served as a Faculty Research Assistant. Her work as a Faculty Research Assistant contributed to scholarship cited in the Journal of Dispute Resolution and the Connecticut Law Review.
Brandi is admitted to practice in Missouri and in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri and has been admitted pro hac vice in jurisdictions nationwide. She is actively involved in the Kansas City legal community and serves in leadership roles with local bar organizations and nonprofit boards, including the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, the KCMBA Federal Courts Advocates Section, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation Student Law Academy, LEANLAB Education, and HBCU Walking Billboard.
When she’s not working, Brandi enjoys relaxing, traveling, playing tennis, reading thrillers, and listening to true crime podcasts.
“I enjoy helping clients navigate complex legal issues and finding clear paths forward, especially when the stakes are high. That focus aligns with the collaborative, client first approach at Krigel Nugent + Moore.”Brandi S. Spates
